Jen Michener, LPC, CSAC

I believe that it is an incredible honor and privilege to be part of an individual’s therapeutic journey, especially the journey through change. Change often creates discomfort, which people become experts at avoiding. Discomfort is often considered as a bad thing. Learning to embrace discomfort and see it as a sign that change is happening, can be a powerful therapeutic tool that can create meaningful and lasting change in one’s life. Through the therapeutic process, learning the elements of one’s life that the individual can control can be an uncomfortable and empowering development.  My goal is to make the therapeutic process one that empowers the individual.

I work primarily with individuals that experience anxiety, depression, OCD, PTSD, substance concerns, relationship/social challenges, life transitions, and various other mental health concerns. I utilize the individual’s strengths to help understand, empower, and embrace change, adapting to each distinctive situation. As a Licensed Professional Counselor and a Clinical Substance Abuse Counselor, I work with individuals who are working to improve their mental health concerns and individuals struggling with addiction. I work with adolescents and adults through their mental health journey to gain stability and consistency on the road to health and wellness.

I utilize Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, Solution Focus, Mindfulness, Positive Psychology, Motivational Interviewing, and Person-Centered modalities. I provide a framework for an individual to be able to explore, in a safe place, the challenging thoughts, emotions, and beliefs that have impacted them. I am also a believer in the power of laughter and am open to bringing humor into the therapeutic process as appropriate. I believe that individuals seeking therapy are stronger than they give themselves credit for, and I look to them to help guide the therapeutic process.

I strive to meet you where you are, regardless of the stage of your journey you are at.

The therapeutic relationship is the key to providing a safe space to explore the discomfort of change. I will challenge you to expand what you think you are capable of throughout the journey. You are the one that makes the change; you are the one that has the strength. I am the one with the honor to help you see that.

I look forward to the privilege of walking with you on your journey.
