Audra Nelson, Intern

Hello, I’m Audra Nelson.
I hold a Bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, and I am currently in my final year of the Professional Counseling graduate program at the University of Wisconsin Oshkosh. I am practicing in Wisconsin and bring a Counseling Mindfulness certification to my work.

My professional background includes supporting individuals coping with grief and loss, which continues to shape the way I show up in the therapy room. I am deeply committed to helping clients navigate difficult experiences with compassion, resilience, and meaningful support.

My Approach

I believe healing begins with an authentic therapeutic relationship grounded in compassion and empathy. Every individual’s journey is unique, and I approach each client with curiosity and respect for their lived experience. My role as a counselor is not to “fix,” but to provide tools, insight, and support so clients can build resilience and discover meaningful ways to cope.

My therapeutic approach is rooted in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and trauma-informed care. I help clients explore the beliefs and thought patterns that often emerge after loss or traumatic events. By working collaboratively to reframe these thoughts, clients can reduce emotional distress, regain a sense of control, and begin to move forward.

I also integrate mindfulness techniques, grounding strategies, and psychoeducation to create sessions that feel practical, steadying, and empowering.
